Terminal T1 Aeropuerto Barcelona

This building was constructed on the Llobregat River Delta, which posed a challenge to the project’s engineers, who had to reduce the building’s weight as much as possible, thanks to a mixed compaction system. In addition to the use of lightweight systems and structures, its aesthetics imbue the building with a sense of lightness thanks to the materials used. The design of the floor plan resembles a ‘Y’, and seeks to imbue the building with an international, multicultural, unique and innovative character, while maintaining the luminosity and warmth that characterize Mediterranean architecture. The terminal’s design has been defined as a „low-tech Mediterranean style“; that is, with fewer technological resources applied in an imaginative way in ecological architecture.
